WWII
March 12, 2008Our class are learning about WWII. We went to visit a special place in Falkirk called Callendar House to learn about how life was like during the war. It was all about children being evacuated and how scary and lonely it must have been.
Here we are with our pixie hats and Balaclavas. This is what the children wore in the 1940’s. We also had to wear pullovers. They were very itchy and made us want to scratch.
Here we are getting our identity cards. Everyone had to have one in the war. In our second picture, we have our gas masks and our ration books. We needed these to get food during the war. In our last picture, our land lady was taking our ration books from us because we were evacuated to live with her and she needed them to get us food.
We realised how the children must have felt to leave their family – they were lonely and scared!
